Quick rules
-
Be available on your selected delivery date/time. Delivery times are requests and may change due to carrier delays, weather, traffic, address issues, etc.
-
Green plantains are delivered green. If you need ripe plantains, please do not order green.
-
Green + ripe are shipped separately (different vendors/different locations). When ripe plantains are available please order separate boxes for each.
When your box arrives
-
Open the box immediately and check each unit fruit on the same day.
-
Do not leave the box closed for a long time.
-
Remove and safely dispose of the ethylene sachet. Do not consume.
-
Recommended consumption for green plantain is within 7–10 days from the delivery date shown in your order.
Storage
-
Best short-term storage: cool, dry, dark place away from sunlight/heat (example: not near a heat source).
-
Warm / humid months (around June–September): green plantains can ripen faster. To keep them green longer, store cool (about 8–15°C) as soon as you receive the box.
-
Cold / dry months (around September–May): green plantains may not ripen naturally at room temperature in Japan. Long storage can cause hard skin, darkening, and difficult peeling so don’t store for several weeks.
-
Home ripening results vary by season and home conditions. We cannot offer refunds, replacements, or credits if home ripening does not produce your desired results. If you need ready-to-eat ripe plantains, we recommend purchasing our professionally ripened plantains.
Natural variation
-
Fruit size and piece count vary by season. Boxes are sold by weight, not by a fixed number of pieces.
-
In colder months, when stored at home fruit can lose a small amount of moisture (dehydration), so delivered weight can be slightly lower. This does not mean short-packing.
-
Minor cosmetic marks (scuffs/latex stains/peel marks) are normal and not defects.
Dispatch & delivery timing
-
Your box usually ships from the warehouse before the delivery date shown in your confirmation. (Same-day dispatch is not possible.)
-
Some regions need extra time due to air/ferry connections and weather. If your prefecture is marked (+2) in your order confirmation, add 1 extra day after dispatch.
If you miss delivery
-
Check your mailbox for the missed-delivery ticket. Yamato Kuroneko is yellow and Japan Post is red.
-
Request re-delivery as soon as possible (fresh produce is time-sensitive). For same-day re-delivery, the carrier usually needs your request before 17:00.
-
If you need help, contact us and share the tracking number.
-
If the box is held too long by the carrier or returned to us, we will not be able to send a replacement. Returned boxes may cause delivery suspension until we approve reactivation. You may lose your cash on delivery option and be moved to credit card only payment.
Payment & address limits
-
Payment options include cash on delivery (COD), online credit card, and (Yamato only) credit card payment at the door (on request).
-
We cannot deliver to U.S. military facilities/bases and other restricted access addresses.
-
If COD was not collected due to a carrier error, we may require settlement by card/bank transfer before future deliveries resume.
Claims policy (48-hour rule)
-
Contact us within 48 hours of the delivery date in your request/confirmation.
- Please include all required photos. Send a picture of the shipping label. Also include a photo of the outer box, a photo of inside the box and clear photos of all affected fruit.
-
Keep the product and packaging until we reply your request as we may need further verification.
-
Claims are not covered if they are due to late receipt / missed delivery / home storage / ordering the wrong product / home ripening outcomes / claims after 48 hours.
